misleading email
Register.com repeatedly sends me email incorrectly claiming that my domains are about to expire, even though they are enrolled in register.com's own automatic renewal. The email says "some of these domains may not be enrolled in SafeRenew", as if register.com doesn't know that ALL my domains are enrolled and therefore won't expire as long as my credit card is good. Part of the reason I use automatic renewal is so I don't have to worry about my domains expiring, and here the very folks I'm paying so I don't have to worry are deliberately trying to deceive me into worrying so I'll renew early! I'm shopping around for a better registrar, and you might want to as well... Collapse

Misleading Offers
Last year I received an offer from register.com to safeguard my contact information on WhoIs by masking it from being publicly displayed. The offer said if I paid a certain amount, my contact information would be "kept private for the life of the domain". Of course I signed up, figuring this would mean "for as long as I kept my domain registered with register.com". Imagine my surprise when just a year later I find out that "for the life of the domain" in register.com terms means "until the domain must be renewed". I had just renewed my domain name with them for another 4 years a few days before, but the privacy option is expiring this year and would require another hefty payment to be kept active. I find that wording misleading and will definitely transfer my domain to another registrar when my 4 years are up. Collapse

Outstanding Customer service.
To the people who wrote a review here about Register.com. I am employed by Register.com, but I am also a customer of Register.com. The customer service wait time average is 30 seconds before someone picks up. Register.com is JD Powers and Associates certified for customer service excellence. They are also one of the few registrars that actually have a toll free number to call. It is also 24/7 and the employees go through an extensive training program. The domain prices are reasonable, not high. The reason other registrars charge less is because that's not how they make their money. Some of them offer other services, and some of them just sell your information to advertisers. Register.com offers many services besides domains, at a very reasonable rate. The control panel has undergone many improvements, and if you're looking for advertisements, you might find TWO. not a litter. The hosting control panel has no ads. And they are only Register.com ads, they don't advertise other businesses. They don't display Google ads like most every website you go to these days.. I did have some bad experiences with Network Solutions prior to their customer service overhaul. The last thing I wanted to do was work for them. But now that I'm here, I've learned a lot, and it has changed my view. I use to focus just on price. When I actually had to deal with other registrars' customer service, that changed. I want somewhere I can get good customer service as well. I know a LOT about this stuff, but even I get hung up sometimes and need help. At network solutions you're paying for the customer service. It's really hard to find people who are dedicated to talking to people on the phone, especially when they know they are going to get yelled at at least once a day by someone who calls in and does not understand that they are there to help, not to make their lives a living hell Collapse

Never again, ever!!!
I registered my first personal .name domain with Register.com, and I used it mostly for e-mail. When I decided to create a Web site, I realized that I already had a Web site, which was advertising things I didn't want my name associated with, believe me. So I hired a host who offered me a year's extension. Register.com refused to release the domain and locked it with 1 1/2 years left on the registration citing payment due. So I figured it was just a glitch in their system and I registered it for another year, at about $25.00, and figured they would unlock it then. Nope! They still refused to unlock it but they did allow the e-mail to function and the site to be back up. ...And so that went on.... I had to go to domain disputes with ICANN and with the NIC.name registry to get them to release the domain to another registrar. After many weeks of up-and-down-time, many complaints written and many baloney replies, I finally got the domain registered elsewhere. The domain was registered for the time I paid for but the new registrar only charged half as much. As a result of all the re-registrations to get the domain transferred, the domain got registered until 2010, back in 2002, according to my records. Collapse
