Perhaps too early to comment but I will write a review on my experience with opening a new account. Opened a web hosting account yesterday. The Live Chat sales was very courteous and helpful. They helped me get a good deal on a 3-year term. Did not take much time to open my account; it was taken care of promptly over the phone. The account got activated in little time and I was all set. Gave a 3 star for Services as the web building tools were too bland and outdated. Collapse

We need to use a C-Name record for our domain name. This is a
service many other registrars provide, but Network Solutions does
not. I have been trying to transfer this domain away. because of
trying to do this, we were put on "administrative lock" to START
the process of removing this lock, I spent over an hour on the
phone. I had to endure endless sales pitches, and delays. Every
service they offer, none of which are compatible with our
businesses needs, were thrown out as alternatives. I stated that I
had tried to use thier services to do what we need in the past and
ALL I need today was the information needed to transfer the
domain. each time I said no to the sales pitch, I politely asked to
get the information I needed, each time I was pitched a different
product offering instead. then got "can you hold on a minute while
our system is updated" and then "while we are waiting, let me tell
you about our hosting packages" IT WAS INSANE. I cannot
recommend this company in any way shape or form. Collapse

Hey,
I am the first to rail against monopolies. I use as few Microsoft products as I can get away with. BUT since Network Solutions was the first registrar, I started with them when I registered my first domain in 1996.
I don't like them much but at least I understand their bureaucracy. Other registrars seem to be much too loose with security procedures for domain theft and don't seem to offer real telephone support without a run-a-round. I have had to deal with others many times to get domains transferred and they never want to seem to make it easy to "lose" a customer.
Anyhow, my biggest compaint about Network Solutions is that they constantly offer products to MY customers in my retail account. I have a retail and wholesale account with them.
IF you are thinking about doing business with Network Solutions for other businesses not your own, consider openning a wholesale account with them. Their partner portal is fairly easy to navigate.

A refute to poor reviews
To the people who wrote a review here about Network Solutions. I am employed by Network Solutions, but I am also a customer of Network Solutions. I will grant you, network solutions' customer service was CRAP a few years ago, and they did have a monopoly on the industry. But to address a few issues:
The customer service wait time average is 10 seconds before someone picks up. Network Solutions is JD Powers and Associates certified for customer service excellence. They are also one of the few registrars that actually have a toll free number to call. It is also 24/7 and the employees go through an extensive training program.
The domain prices are reasonable, not high. The reason other registrars charge less is because that's not how they make their money. Some of them offer other services, and some of them just sell your information to advertisers. Network solutions offers many services besides domains, at a very reasonable rate.
The control panel has undergone many improvements, and if you're looking for advertisements, you might find TWO. not a litter. The hosting control panel has no ads. And they are only Network solutions ads, they don't advertise other businesses. They don't display Google ads like most every website you go to these days..
I did have some bad experiences with Network Solutions prior to their customer service overhaul. The last thing I wanted to do was work for them. But now that I'm here, I've learned a lot, and it has changed my view. I use to focus just on price. When I actually had to deal with other registrars' customer service, that changed. I want somewhere I can get good customer service as well. I know a LOT about this stuff, but even I get hung up sometimes and need help. At network solutions you're paying for the customer service. It's really hard to find people who are dedicated to talking to people on the phone, especially when they know they are going to get yelled at at least once a day by someone who calls in and does not understand that they are there to help, not to make their lives a living hell. Money Back Guarantee???
The user interface is splattered with ads making it very difficult to
understand how to read the pages to manage your account.
I opened my account using the Drupal content management
software, Network Solutions were unable to manage Drupal
correctly. I cancelled my account and asked for a refund under their
policy.
It has taken me months to stop them charging my credit card and I
am still waiting for the original refund and now I am still waiting for
the refund of all the over charging.
I will never use them again, this has been a very bad customer
service experience. Collapse

Network Solutions is the Internet Dictatorship
Plain and simple these guys are way too expensive, have monopolized the industry for too long and they must be stopped before someone looses more money on renewing names they won't release for transfer.
Always they make things difficult and not reseller friendly. Never is it easy to find all your names with them and transferring them is a pain sometimes.
Their cush little relationship with verisign and ICANN should be looked into more closely and now with the Snap Names deal they are going back to their stange way of manipulating the availability of domains to consumers who want them at a reasonable price.
However if it wasn't for them screwing the whole process of assigning names in the 90's to just any joe with out paying for them or owning a business based in one of the TLD categories we may not have an Expired Domain market in the first place. Through the birth of domain squatting and speculation it became real clear as to how this industry is a valuable one to be in.
